Who are you and what is Territory Careers?

These are fair questions…

First – who am I?

Call me the Cartographer. 

I’ve had a wide and varied career in consulting, industry, and as an entrepreneur and executive, during which I’ve mentored many students and professionals in charting their careers.  I’ve worked with people who’ve gotten into:

• Top companies (e.g., consulting firms, investment banks, private equity firms, big tech giants, and fortune 500 organizations)
• Top undergrad institutions (e.g., Cornell)
• Top MBA schools (e.g., Chicago Booth, Northwestern, Harvard Business School)
• Top med schools / residencies
• And other career paths

Throughout this time, I kept seeing VERY talented individuals unfortunately fall victim to common career mistakes or a lack of relevant knowledge about how to plan their careers.

What I also realized was…

it doesn’t need to be this way.

I’m currently the CEO of several businesses, but this wasn’t always the case.  Here’s an abridged version of my path…

• Stockboy at a retail store
• Volunteer at a property management company
• Engineer from a top engineering college
• Supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering roles at Fortune 100 companies
• MBA from a top 7 (or “M7”) school
• Management consultant for a top firm working with C-Suite executives, VPs, and Directors in automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, high tech, healthcare and other industries
• COO of a $22M business responsible for all operations and hiring/firing
• Multiple-time entrepreneur and CEO

I’m not stating all of this to boast – I want you to know that I understand how the corporate world works, and how small business works. 

And most of all, I learned what ACTUALLY works in terms of getting a job and moving UP efficiently in a career.  I’ve been on both sides of the hiring and promotion equation.

Secondly – let me tell you what Territory Careers is about.

We’re focused on helping students and young professionals:

• Understand their talents/gifts
• Understand how the business world and career progression works
• Avoid typical mistakes people make in navigating careers
• Learn from career role models
• Make wise career decisions and plans

Most career resources may tackle a few of the above, but we can help you with all 5.  Why?  Well, frankly…because we’ve done it before.
